Dressmaking – Skill Builder - Lined Jacket
Have you ever wanted to make a lined jacket but thought the techniques may be too complex? Then this is the course for you… An exciting opportunity to build a portfolio of Jacket Making Skills – each week will include a video detailing the instructions on a new technique, followed by a comprehensive step by step PowerPoint presentation for you to work along with at home with tutor support every step of the way.
• Week 1 - Fitting for individual figures – a selection of pattern amendments to make a Jacket fit
• Week 2 – Pressing, Padstitching & Suitable Interfacing
• Week 3 4 – Collars & Facings
• Week 5 – Sleeves, sleeve roll and shoulder pads
• Week 6 - Pockets (and zips)
• Week 7 - Lining a Jacket
• Week 8 - Buttonholes/Buttons and Fastenings
Example of the structure of session:
10am - Introduction
10.05am – All learners will have microphones muted with cameras turned off and asked to follow the link to watch the ‘Jacket Making Skill of the Week’
10.20am approx. – Learners return to Zoom for a discussion about the video where questions/queries are answered – learners will have microphones muted, and questions asked via the ‘hand up’ system. We will also be using the ‘chat’ function in Zoom.
10.30am – PowerPoint presentation of the ‘step-by-step’ guide to accompany the video. Learners work alongside each other and the tutor to complete the task – the tutor will be available to answer questions/queries along the way
11.25am – Evaluate session
11.30 – Class finish

Please note that demonstrations have been recorded in tutors’ own homes. All videos and PowerPoints will be available to the learners following the session and available to use as a resource in their future projects.

This is an intermediate class (not suitable for beginners); some sewing experience will be necessary.

**Please note, a fully working sewing machine is required to complete this course – no time will be available from the tutor to fix sewing machine problems.**

You will need to provide your own fabrics and pattern paper to complete the tasks – detailed information of the requirements and pattern pieces will be sent once we know the class has enough learners enrolled to make it viable.

The course will be fully supported by "Padlet" (best described as an online noticeboard) where weekly demonstrations and other useful material will be uploaded by the tutor. This is an online course that will be delivered via Zoom, so please ensure that you can access this on the device you are using.

You will receive your Zoom login details in an email that is sent out 24 hours before the course is due to start. (Please note, if you enrol less than 24 hours before a course starts, you will receive your zoom code as soon as you enrol.) Please keep your Zoom code safe as you will need the same code for further classes if this is part of a course.

You will need to join Zoom five minutes before your session is due to start and remain in the “waiting room”. Your tutor will then admit you to the class once your session is ready to begin.
