Oil Painting
This course is designed to help you develop your skills and confidence using oil paints. Each week we will look at different aspects of the medium such as how to create different consistencies of paint (fat over lean), how to paint using both direct and indirect techniques and how to mix colours.

Inspired by tutor-led talks and demonstrations, you’ll work on your own painting studies at home, exploring techniques and different approaches with plenty of opportunities to ask questions, share your work and get supportive feedback.

The course is supported by online resources and a gallery page that you can access throughout the course.

This course is aimed at learners who are already using oils, have ‘had a go’, or who have completed a beginner’s course but would still benefit from the structure, advice and support of a professional painting tutor.

If you have never painted in oils before, then you can still do this course as we will continue to cover the fundamentals of oil painting throughout the lessons.

You will be sent a Materials Guide once you enrol on the course – this is a detailed list of all the materials and equipment associated with oil painting. Your basic materials will include oil paints, a palette, brushes, oil painting paper/board, odourless-solvent and linseed oil. If you prefer to use water-soluble oil paints and mediums, then you can. You will also be able to contact your tutor before the course begins if you have any specific questions about materials or equipment. Prosp User 5
This is an online course that will be delivered via Zoom, so please ensure that you can access this on the device you are using.

You will receive your Zoom login details in an email that is sent out 24 hours before the course is due to start. (Please note, if you enrol less than 24 hours before a course starts, you will receive your zoom code as soon as you enrol.) Please keep your Zoom code safe as you will need the same code for further classes if this is part of a course.

You will need to join Zoom five minutes before your session is due to start and remain in the “waiting room”. Your tutor will then admit you to the class once your session is ready to begin.

If you require help to download or use Zoom, please email ictskills@york.gov.uk at least a week before your course starts and we will endeavour to provide assistance.

Please ensure that you read and understand the health and safety guidelines on any new creative product you intend to use during the course, before the first class.
