Creative Writing - A Touch Of Northern Soul: The Bookclub
No, nothing to do with the musical genre, but a book club featuring great writing set against a northern backdrop, work that is lively, engaging and provocative, books that pack a punch and live on in the mind. The key qualities of the chosen texts will be highlighted and discussed, not least as a possible prompt to the participants’ own creative writing.

So join us for our monthly book club (last Saturday of the month); First up, on the 27th of February, will be The Mating Habits of Stags by Ray Robinson, a novel shortlisted for last year’s Portico Prize, and characterised by the Yorkshire Post as a “bittersweet and starkly beautiful tale that lingers long in the mind”.

This will be followed, on the 27th of March, by Helen Mort’s Black Car Burning – “Bold, imaginative … intensely realistic” wrote Sean O’Brien in the Times Literary Supplement.
