Textiles - Machine Embroidery - Painting with Thread
Over the course of four weeks, we will explore free machine embroidery and discover new possibilities with the sewing machine.

Experimenting with the concept of using thread as paint, and your machine as your paint brush, we will enjoy the process of developing texture and colour mixing. Artist studies will be fed into the course, offering inspiration and the discovery of beautiful compositions, in line with your own interests and adoration of colour, form and object.

Observational and research tasks that can be completed at your own pace within your home environment, will be set by the tutor throughout the duration of the course with the aim of developing your ideas and confidence. The progression of your technical ability will be supported by the tutor through live demonstrations, ongoing advice and feedback during the session.

Sample pieces will be created and the tutor will offer advice and guidance into developing these samples into future functional and decorative textile pieces.

This course is delivered online using Zoom and GoogleClassroom. The course will consist of live tutor demonstrations and the sharing of visual resources and handouts to aid understanding. Guidance, support and feedback will be given throughout the duration of the course and small class sizes will ensure a positive and supportive learning environment. You can work at your own pace within the session and converse with the tutor when needed.

Google Classroom will also be used to support and communicate within your sewing group. This includes the sharing of tutor videos, handouts and online links to sewing tutorials and websites. You are also encouraged to speak with your peers within the group. Google Classroom allows you to post questions and ideas, upload photographs of your sampling and discuss progress with other creative enthusiasts.

It is important that you also read the sections: 'What do I need to bring / additional costs?' and 'Is there anything else I ne
