Flour Power - Introduction to Bread making and Pastry
A workshop for those new to bread and pastry making, giving you practical experience in baking basic breads and shortcrust pastry

A hands on course in which Hilary will demonstrate and explain easy and effective methods of baking bread and ideas for finished savoury dishes. You will learn judge when doughs are mixed, fermented, proved and baked. During the course you will make, by hand, a classic loaf flavoured plaits or rolls and savoury Stromboli. Whilst waiting for bread we will turn our skills to how make shortcrust pastry where we will make sausage rolls or a quiche which will hone your skills of lining pastry cases and baking blind.

A practical course for anyone who would like to learn how to bake bread and conquer pastry from scratch. By the end of the course you will be able to bake your own breads and gain a basic understanding of how “dough” works. You will also learn how to conquer shortcrust pastry, lining a tin and baking blind. You will have a booklet of recipes to take away and use at home as well as a collection of handmade bread and pastry. Prosp User 4
Please bring with you an apron, 2 tea towels, oven gloves, bags to take bread home, a 2lb loaf tin (ideally non stick) and a 20cm flan tin or dish. You will need to bring your own ingredients and a list will be emailed to you before the course. The estimated cost of the main ingredients will be £10-£15. Prosp User 5
