Dressmaking - Intermediate Plus
Do commercial patterns never fit? Would you like to learn how to draft patterns to suit your shape, using your own measurements? This course will focus on all the processes necessary, to create garments. Taking your own measurements, drafting a pattern, where to buy fabrics to cutting out and fitting the garment. Perfecting zip fastenings, collars, pockets, sleeves, waistbands and finally pressing for the professional finish. Learners will also have the opportunity to look at some basic tailoring techniques.
A great course, where the tutor will always be on hand to teach by a variety of methods including tutor presentation, varied demonstrations and one to one personalized guidance. Previous basic pattern cutting/dressmaking experience would be beneficial.
During the 10 week course learners will develop their dressmaking/pattern cutting skills and complete more complicated projects to a professional standard, some independent study outside class will be required to complete projects. Subject to numbers, classes will continue after Christmas to further extend learning/production.
Verbal and written feedback will be given by the tutor throughout the course, learners will be required to produce course work which will include idea’s books/samples and a simple garment.

For both the beginner and more advanced learner, an interest in dressmaking is essential. Prosp User 4
A sketchbook/notebook & pencil and an A4 size ring binder. Basic sewing tools – scissors, pins, tape measure, thread etc. A pattern master would be an advantage, or a clear ruler with cm’s and a propelling or very sharp pencil and a calculator. Paper/card for drafting blocks/patterns will be available to purchase from the tutor at classes. Learners will be expected to buy their own fabric for making toiles/mock ups of garments. Prosp User 5
