Fundamentals of Information Security and Cybersecurity
This course is designed to provide a step up to a Foundation Degree in Digital Technologies (Cybersecurity) at York College. Starting with a look at the wide range of career opportunities in the field it will then introduce the different types of threats commonly faced by organisations who increasingly rely on digital technology. It will then explore the various countermeasures that are used to mitigate the risks, with reference to industry standards and legal requirements. This will lead into the “security principle” and basics of risk management as applied to cybersecurity. The penultimate week will introduce the essentail skills for higher education to make the transition into higher level studies a little less daunting. The final (optional) week will be a taster session at York College. Prosp User 3
This course is suitable for people without a level-3 qualification in IT / computing / digital technologies. Basic IT skills would be beneficial and for progression, competency with Microsoft Word and Internet search engines is very important. While GCSE maths at grade C (or equivalent) is an entry requirement for the Foundation Degree it is not a pre-requisite for this course and will be offered alongside for anyone who requires it. This course is not overly technical and will not include any “ethical hacking”. Please note this course is not about how to keep yourself safe online - we have other workshops dedcated to this, please see our course listings. Prosp User 4
Please bring a notepad and pen, as there will be lots of terminology to remember. Prosp User 5
